There are two ways of describing "comfort food". The first being a type of food that has the grace to take you back to a pleasant memory from your childhood; like say, peanut-butter and jam sandwiches, or eggs and toast soldiers. What about after a breakup or other times when your stress levels are high, and you practically inhale a slice of chocolate mudcake, or devour a whole tub of icecream? Comfort food is typically inexpensive, uncomplicated, and easily prepared. Many people eat comfort food because it is generally easily digestible, is tasty and flavorful, or as a way to reward oneself. I have been living on a food budget since I first moved from home, not because I was a poor Uni student living on a 2-minute noodle diet, but to support my weekend drinking and shoe shopping habits. So many people I know will actually live off Mi Goreng noodles and toast and wonder why they always get the flu. Vegetable are so cheap and can be added to every single meal, yet we always dismiss them with a wave of the hand.
I am going to set myself a weekly shopping budget, create a shopping list which ALL items can be found at a local IGA store (no hunting during ungodly hours at the weekend markets for me!), and post easy to make, delicious and HEALTHY comfort foods. I admitt, I am nowhere near as good of a cook as I'd like to be. With this in mind, my "food blogging" will either go smoothly, or I will be uploading a picture of some hideous attempt at a banana cake rather shamefaced.
Fingers crossed I don't burn the house down.
