Balut is one of the most popular dishes in Philippines. It is a duck egg that is boiled just before hatching.
Balut is not a bizarre minority dish, it is actually quite common. So common, that it is a street-food, much like our hotdogs.
These eggs can be eaten as is, or most commonly with salt or lemon juice. Ideally the egg should be 17 days-old before being boiled. But, in some other countries -like Thailand- eggs are usually a few days older.
