Made in Veracruz and Huastaca, the Zacahuil is the world's largest tamale, sometimes weighing up to 150 pounds.
This tamale is wrapped in banana leaves, not corn husks. The masa or cornmeal is thinner than in most tamales, and it is baked in a clay oven or pit until done. Served at festive occasions, the Zacahuil is not an every-day food.
